Electricity time-of-use assessment for a dual tank solar-assisted heat pump system

Many electricity markets are shifting to time-of-use (TOU) metering to account for the variability in wholesale costs and to develop strategies to integrate renewable generating technology. A dual tank solar-assisted heat pump (SAHP) system developed in previous work was analyzed on the basis of TOU to assess the impact and potential of the system. Nearly 15% of the mid-peak consumption was naturally shifted to off-peak due to the control strategy of the dual tank SAHP system. Through control modification and the use of the second storage tank, the possibility exists to shift nearly all electricity consumption to off-peak.
