Installed Solar Capacity in North Texas

How many solar PV installations exist in your geographic area of interest? In the absence of solid reporting data, members of the North Texas Renewable Energy Group (NTREG) sought data on the number of installations in North Texas. NREL’s OpenPV data is subject to self-reporting limitations. Commercial services that may provide such information are expensive. By gathering building/electrical permit data through Open Records Requests, NTREG was able to answer the question for North Texas with a comprehensive data set. This Open Records Request effort can and should be modeled and replicated in other locations where installation data is not otherwise readily available.

The area we are referring to as “North Texas” encompasses an area larger than the states of Connecticut and Delaware combined and has a population of more than 6.5 million people, or approximately the population of Indiana or Tennessee.
