Investing in distributed generation

July 28, 2015
Session T1A: Electricity Economics — Room 104
8:30 am  -  9:30 am

In this presentation, we will explore what it takes for an individual to become a renewable power generator. Working with the local electric coop in rural Colorado, in 2012 Red Wagon completed construction of an 88kW solar array, tied to the grid and selling power to the coop through a 10 year PPA. With the movement across the nation to invest in distributed generation facilities and community solar gardens, individuals once kept out of direct involvement in the energy industries now have a unique opportunity. We will explore the upsides, ROI’s, and relationships in this type of investment. We will also uncover the many pitfalls, hidden obstacles, and new obstructions set to disrupt the promising future of entrepreneurial renewable power generation.
