Session T2C: Optimizing Water and Energy — Room 106
9:45 am  -  10:45 am

The Solar Women of Totogalpa receiving a UNDP project to build 120 Improved Cookstoves motivated the co-authors to improve their Improved Cookstove design by adding a second air intake to get more complete combustion and more efficient use of the firewood. By measuring the efficiencies of three of the stoves before and after this modification they found the efficiency went up from initially 13% to 22% after the modification. The Improved2 Cookstoves are made from local adobe clay with only the inner firebox fabricated from ceramic components and a metal plate as the hot cooking surface.

Success brought in more projects for a total of 176 Improved2 Cookstoves in 2014. Community women have since been invited to build and teach women of other communities.
