Utility scale – dead or just beginning?

Utility scale solar (large solar installations tied into the traditional grid system) has enjoyed a rapid growth over the past three years as utilities signed power contracts for mega projects. The recent trend, however, has been away from larger projects, leading to speculation that the era of the utility scale project is over. This presentation will discuss the current shift away from megaprojects and toward smaller, utility scale projects. It will examine the impact of diverse buyers, including investor owned utilities, municipalities and co-ops, interested in smaller projects to match their current load, as well as to fit the distribution system of the buyer without significant transmission upgrades.
